Simplify Your Life :o)

A simple life has a different meaning and a different value for different people. For us, it has meant working toward eliminating all but the essential and spending time doing what we consider important. It means cutting out clutter so you can appreciate what you value.

However, getting to simplicity isn't always a simple process. It's a journey, not a destination, and it can often be a journey of two steps forward, and one backward.
I know that we have been methodically declutering our finances, our home, and our outside activities (except for vacations, that is one of our priorities that we strive for). If you're interested in simplifying your life, this is a great starter's guide (if you're not interested, move on).

The Short List, it simply boils down to two steps. Keep repeating them and you will get there. Remember that it is a marathon, not a sprint.

1. Identify what's most important to you.
2. Eliminate everything else.

What are you doing to simplify?

  2. I am with Linda ... any tips would help.

As my 'what am I doing', it remains 'a yes, a no, a straight line, a goal'. That is what both of the items listed mean to me.

It isn't easy to apply, but it isn't hard, either!!

  3. I've found that by eliminating the constant going here, running there, I feel much less stressed. AND since we don't go out all that often, it makes it all the more of a treat when we do, and allows us to really enjoy ourselves on vacation! (Love the American Gothic graphic, by the way!)

  4. I do not have a written list, but I am telling you lately I know what I want to do, yet I feel guilty for wanting it. Like I am spending so much time at the gym that I do not have much time for anything else. I love the feeling of working out. I am also enjoying blogging and I look forward to read everyone post. I hate cleaning. so I am glad that you brought up this topic. Cause I was about to have a family meeting about this same issue. Great site.

  5. After retirement, I managed to simply my life a lot......you sort of have no choice but to make cutbacks as the monthly check is not that big paycheck anymore!

I've been trying to declutter. I keep cleaning out my walk in closet and it never looks like I even made a mild dent! LOL

Yet, I have filled many trash bags to give away to the American Vets Foundation or Good Will.

  6. Hi Ken,
I'm all for simplification. The problem is, even with all the great advice, getting yourself simplified isn't exactly ... simple.
    Best,

  7. Good article listing 50 ways to simplify your life, thank you for sharing. I've been working on simplifying my own life since I became seriously ill back in 1998. I've tried to lower my stress levels. For me, that has meant learning to say no to many of the requests for input that come my way. I try to accept that I cannot solve all problems of my friends and family. It can be hard, but I'm getting better and better at it
