Polaroid to Immortalize Lady GaGa?


Private equity titans Gordon Brothers Brands LLC and Hilco Consumer Capital LP paid $88.1 million in May to acquire what was left of Polaroid, once the most iconic brand in photography. Now the company is looking to make a splash by signing 23-year old pop icon Lady Gaga to a contract that makes her a spokesperson and creative director.

  4. Oh, good lord! They haven't made those things in years! Last I saw of Polaroid, they were importing printer paper and cartridges and selling them at places like Walgreens and Walmart. What could that brand POSSIBLY represent to the market place? It is synonomous with antiquated, outdated technology. That would be about like Ford trying to ressurect itself by bringing back the Edsel!

  6. Well I love Lady Ga Ga and everything seems to turn to gold she touches. Of course if they really revamp the company they could have a really big come back- with new technology, not that old box thing.

  7. Just saw the "new" Polaroid cameras featured at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show. They're not your mom's Polaroid, but I'm not sure what they really have to offer. It will be interesting to see how they re-brand and market this low-tech.

    I think they put this out at CES ... but in my view it's a waste of money trying to cut through all the cutter at this show. They'd have been better off holding this announcement for a slow news period when it wouldn't be lost with all the other buzz.
