Thank You Mr. President, Both Of You :o)

Regardless of your political affiliation, today was a historic day. President Bush has been our President for the past eight years, and while we can agree or disagree on his legacy, he was the leader of our country during the 9/11 tragedy, and he showed remarkable leadership at that time. So, Thank You President Bush, as President Obama stated today, for your service to our country.

I had the chance near lunch to be in my car and hear the introductions for the inauguration today, and it was truly historic, regal, and epic. On the way home, I got to hear the entire speech, and tonight on T.V., got to see the Lincoln Bible, the incredible new first family, and this moment in history will be forever ingrained.

So, I say, thank you President Bush, and welcome President Obama. I voted for both of you for the same reason, to keep the United States of America the best country to live in, and to be proud of. You both showed immense poise and grace during the past several months as this transition was made, and you are both to be commended.

Hope and Change mean different things at different times, and I look forward to the next four years.

  2. You can probably guess that I can't bring myself to thank Bush for much, but I will say that he was gracious and helpful during this time of transition.

Now let's get this party started!!

  3. We cannot even imagine the great responsibility that either of them have or had. To even want to be a President is something to thank them for. Someone has to do it and we didn't see a very long line of those willing to take it on. We all have lots of hope that changes can be made and everyone will unite to keep our country great.

  8. I never felt embarrassed by or ashamed of President Bush. What I heard of the inaugural speech was hopeful. I believe that there are things about this world and our nation that no one knows except the President. That said, I feel Bush took better care of us than many may ever realize. And I pray that as Obama becomes aware of all the "new" to him inforamtion God will guide his steps for our sakes and His Will.

  9. great entry Ken; I was proud of our country with the smooth transition of power and how gracious both the Bushes and Obamas were in the transition; it will be interesting change in the new administration, but my hope is not in it or any man but in God :)

  10. Every single time I've witnessed the change of power as the new president escorts the outgoing president to the helipcoper, I get a lump in my throat. Only in America could it happen as civily as it does. Makes me proud. Very proud.

  12. I didn't get to see it, was at work and hoping they'd have it on the TV's in the bar, but this being TX and this area extremely supportive of Bush I wasn't really surprised..they had sports on. I am hoping to catch snatches of it online and on the TV over the next few days. C. is extremely anti Obama and that's sad. as someone said earlier...let's get this party started!! Blessings, Teresa

  14. As you probably know, GWB doesn't rank high on my list of effective presidents, but I appreciate the sentiment that you express and I felt it very appropriate that President Obama acknowledged former President Bush's contributions to this country. As always, a well thought out and balanced entry.

  18. Hi Ken,
Wow ... you're a better man than I. I find it hard to "thank" Bush for everything he's done for the country in the last eight years. Can I just thank him for leaving Washington? Seriously, I think it's possible to respect the office but not the individual.
    Best,
    Marty
