Safe Haven :o)

If you are a hunter, you will not appreciate this post.  On the other hand, if you are a nature lover, you will like this.

I spent several hours clearing our marsh path, and since I needed a place to put the branches, I added to a natural copse.

The first picture is the backside view from our marsh path, the second picture is a straight on picture of the deer safe haven I enhanced.

If I was a deer, and the weather was getting colder, I would definitely hunker down here.  If you look close, you will see I actually put a forked branch under the crossing tree trunk.  I believe this will last for several years.

  1. I think that's a great idea....the deer need a dry place in the winter too. I love working outside during this time of the year, Linda in Washington (who's up way too late!)

  3. As a non-hunter, this was a fantastic thing to do.

  7. Correction, a vast majority of hunters are nature lovers, part of the reason they hunt, that and food on the table. Many of us are nature conservationist too...uh oh, I was about to get on my soapbox. Step down Rhonda and take a breath.... Ok. I for one like the fact you didn't throw out the limbs as rubish. Too many animals benefit from fallen limbs. Enhancing the deer haven is great. But it looks like you my have covered a second exit. A deer might not lay there if it thinks it might get penned in. All you need is a hole in the back. If you can crawl through it, a deer can too.

  8. Good for you. I LOVE seeing deer, out and about. Making them a haven is an honorable thing. I hate Bambi Killers.

  10. Good idea ... looks very inviting. If you tried that in my neck of the woods, you'd end up with a few local loons moving in!
    Best,

  13. I am a responsible and ethical hunter AND a nature lover, and I love what you did. (And believe me, we hunters know the places that deer hunker down in.) And Rhonda is right; they do, like rabbits, like an exit hole if they can get one. But well done!
