Another Reason to not like Walmart :o(

As a clown, I have to admit that there is nothing I find funny about this commercial.

Making people laugh is a great thing, and to further denigrate a fine profession for the sake of some meager sales increase for party favors is not my cup of tea.  Having said that, another reason to not like Tea Baggers :o)

  1. At least they showed what he stepped on. At least the dad was not intentionally inflicting fear on the kids. What about the USPS commercial with the clown doll? LOL>.. sorry.. both funny to me. :)

  2. You know, when I first saw the commercial I didn't get it - wasn't paying close enough attention to whet he stepped on and thought he was purposefully scaring the children. Figured it out later, and for a moment convinced myself I needed to pay closer to commercials - then the words rang in my ears, and I figured I must be outta my mind. Annoying...

  4. Did you see the clown episode of "Modern Family?" They reran it last night It was pretty damn funny. (I'm like the guy who plays the Dad. Completely clownphobic).
I think this commercial is funny, but I don't think it's very good for promoting Walmart.

  5. Didn't like this Walmart spot anymore than I like the USPS commercial with clowns. I have a friend who insists clowns are sad and miserable people... now the trend seems to be portraying them as scary. Shame on all of them.

  7. Ken, this must have been painful for you to watch. It's wrong on so many levels. I do agree with you. Turning an honorable tradition into a mockery and a consumer product, is hard to swallow. Of course the moment we started to sell clown costumes and makeup to everyday citizens, this was bound to happen. They have no idea what it is to be a clown and they don't have the training to pull fun and delight out of thin air.

For me, the media trend toward scary or sinister clowns didn't help, nor did seeing a drunk person in a clown suit when I was a child. That was uncomfortable and scary.

  8. Okay. I laughed my ass off just now. I'm sorry, but I hate clowns. I have this totally irrational fear of them, which I'm pretty sure stems back to when I was a small kid and my older sister let me stay up late to watch the movie IT.

Okay, I just looked it up. I wasn't a "small" child. I was at least 12. I am such a sissy!
