Tough Read - The Opioid Diaries

This was a tough read for me.  My brother is an addict (the downslope started in 1990...).  I hope he is not still using, but once you are an addict, you are an addict for the rest of your life, even if you are in recovery.

I know he has been homeless multiple times, we have helped where we could, but at some point you reach the point were you can no longer enable the behavior.

After reading this special issue of Time, I feel very fortunate that I still have my brother.  Recently, several of his high school/Navy friends have reached out to me to reconnect with him, I hope that this further affirms that he is loved.

This tugged at my heart in a very difficult way.  There may be friends/family that do not agree with me making this post, but I did this for me.

I love you Brother and please get better!!!

  2. Brother you have a lot of company. If hard drugs haven't touched a family it is a miracle. In my family we had to stop 'enabling'. I thought we were helping. But I watched a son go from very wealthy to scrapping. He is climbing back up now, but, but, as you said. 'tis tough all round. Once you are touched by this addiction, you will never know the heart rending decisions that are faced. Hang in there and do your best to BELIEVE.
