My aunt was a huge fan of creative visualization; my mom is not so. In the past when going on an interview for a job I really wanted, I would say things like, "When I get this job..." My mother would correct me and say, "You mean if."
Goes back to my high school days. I would make up elaborate stories about my life to tell my friends. Important thing is that I knew these friends knew that all that I was saying was a lie. Often my friends would tell me that they wanted to believe me though since I was so convincing. The secret is that I convinced myself the lie was true before speaking. (Some folks would call this acting.)
This is what makes some people really successful -- including con artists.
